ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਦੁਪਦੇ ॥

aasaa mahalaa panjavaa dhupadhe ||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehla, Dho-Padhay:

ਭਈ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਦੇਹੁਰੀਆ ॥

bhiee paraapat maanukh dhehureeaa ||

You have been blessed with this human body.

ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਮਿਲਣ ਕੀ ਇਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਰੀਆ ॥

gobi(n)dh milan kee ieh teree bareeaa ||

This is your chance to meet the Lord of the Universe.

ਅਵਰਿ ਕਾਜ ਤੇਰੈ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਕਾਮ ॥

avar kaaj terai kitai na kaam ||

Other efforts are of no use to you.

ਮਿਲੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਭਜੁ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ॥੧॥

mil saadhasa(n)gat bhaj keval naam ||1||

Joining the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, vibrate and meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||

ਸਰੰਜਾਮਿ ਲਾਗੁ ਭਵਜਲ ਤਰਨ ਕੈ ॥

sara(n)jaam laag bhavajal taran kai ||

Make the effort, and cross over the terrifying world ocean.

ਜਨਮੁ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਜਾਤ ਰੰਗਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

janam birathaa jaat ra(n)g maiaa kai ||1|| rahaau ||

This human life is passing away in vain, in the love of Maya. ||1||Pause||

ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਨ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥

jap tap sa(n)jam dharam na kamaiaa ||

I have not practiced meditation, penance, self-restraint or righteous living;

ਸੇਵਾ ਸਾਧ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥

sevaa saadh na jaaniaa har raiaa ||

I have not served the Holy Saints, and I do not know the Lord, my King.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮ ਨੀਚ ਕਰੰਮਾ ॥

kahu naanak ham neech kara(n)maa ||

Says Nanak, my actions are vile and despicable;

ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੇ ਕੀ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਸਰਮਾ ॥੨॥੨੯॥

saran pare kee raakhahu saramaa ||2||29||

O Lord, I seek Your Sanctuary - please, preserve my honor. ||2||29||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:

ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੈ ਦੂਜਾ ਤੂੰ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥

tujh bin avar naahee mai dhoojaa too(n) mere man maahee ||

Without You, there is no other for me; You alone are in my mind.

ਤੂੰ ਸਾਜਨੁ ਸੰਗੀ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਕਾਹੇ ਜੀਅ ਡਰਾਹੀ ॥੧॥

too(n) saajan sa(n)gee prabh meraa kaahe jeea ddaraahee ||1||

You are my Friend and Companion, God; why should my soul be afraid? ||1||

ਤੁਮਰੀ ਓਟ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ਆਸਾ ॥

tumaree oT tumaaree aasaa ||

You are my support, You are my hope.

ਬੈਠਤ ਊਠਤ ਸੋਵਤ ਜਾਗਤ ਵਿਸਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਤੂੰ ਸਾਸ ਗਿਰਾਸਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

baiThat uooThat sovat jaagat visar naahee too(n) saas giraasaa ||1|| rahaau ||

While sitting down or standing up, while sleeping or waking, with every breath and morsel of food, I never forget You. ||1||Pause||

ਰਾਖੁ ਰਾਖੁ ਸਰਣਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪਨੀ ਅਗਨਿ ਸਾਗਰ ਵਿਕਰਾਲਾ ॥

raakh raakh saran prabh apanee agan saagar vikaraalaa ||

Protect me, please protect me, O God; I have come to Your Sanctuary; the ocean of fire is so horrible.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕੇ ਸੁਖਦਾਤੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਹਮ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਬਾਲ ਗੁਪਾਲਾ ॥੨॥੩੦॥

naanak ke sukhadhaate satigur ham tumare baal gupaalaa ||2||30||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਲੀਨੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਛਡਾਇ ॥

har jan leene prabhoo chhaddai ||

The Lord God has saved me, His slave.

ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਿਉ ਮੇਰੋ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਤਾਪੁ ਮੁਆ ਬਿਖੁ ਖਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

preetam siau mero man maaniaa taap muaa bikh khai ||1|| rahaau ||

My mind has surrendered to my Beloved; my fever has taken poison and died. ||1||Pause||

ਪਾਲਾ ਤਾਊ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਬਿਆਪੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥

paalaa taauoo kachhoo na biaapai raam naam gun gai ||

Cold and heat do not touch me at all, when I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

ਡਾਕੀ ਕੋ ਚਿਤਿ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਰਨਾਇ ॥੧॥

ddaakee ko chit kachhoo na laagai charan kamal saranai ||1||

My consciousness is not affected by the witch, Maya; I take to the Sanctuary of the Lord's Lotus Feet. ||1||

ਸੰਤ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਭਏ ਕਿਰਪਾਲਾ ਹੋਏ ਆਪਿ ਸਹਾਇ ॥

sa(n)t prasaadh bhe kirapaalaa hoe aap sahai ||

By the Grace of the Saints, the Lord has shown His Mercy to me; He Himself is my Help and Support.

ਗੁਨ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਨਿਤਿ ਗਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਹਸਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਮਿਟਾਇ ॥੨॥੩੧॥

gun nidhaan nit gaavai naanak sahasaa dhukh miTai ||2||31||

Nanak ever sings the Praises of the Lord, the treasure of excellence; his doubts and pains are eliminated. ||2||31||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

aasaa mahalaa panjavaa ||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:

ਅਉਖਧੁ ਖਾਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਉ ॥

aaukhadh khaio har ko naau ||

I have taken the medicine of the Name of the Lord.

ਸੁਖ ਪਾਏ ਦੁਖ ਬਿਨਸਿਆ ਥਾਉ ॥੧॥

sukh paae dhukh binasiaa thaau ||1||

I have found peace, and the seat of pain has been removed. ||1||

ਤਾਪੁ ਗਇਆ ਬਚਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ॥

taap giaa bachan gur poore ||

The fever has been broken, by the Teachings of the Perfect Guru.

ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਸਭਿ ਮਿਟੇ ਵਿਸੂਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

anadh bhiaa sabh miTe visoore ||1|| rahaau ||

I am in ecstasy, and all of my sorrows have been dispelled. ||1||Pause||

ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਗਲ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

jeea ja(n)t sagal sukh paiaa ||

All beings and creatures obtain peace,

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੨॥੩੨॥

paarabraham naanak man dhiaaiaa ||2||32||

O Nanak, meditating on the Supreme Lord God. ||2||32||

aasaa mahalaa panjavaa ||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:

ਬਾਂਛਤ ਨਾਹੀ ਸੁ ਬੇਲਾ ਆਈ ॥

baa(n)chhat naahee su belaa aaiee ||

That time, which the mortal does not wish for, eventually comes.

ਬਿਨੁ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਕਿਉ ਬੁਝੈ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥੧॥

bin hukamai kiau bujhai bujhaiee ||1||

Without the Lord's Command, how can understanding be understood? ||1||

ਠੰਢੀ ਤਾਤੀ ਮਿਟੀ ਖਾਈ ॥

Tha(n)ddee taatee miTee khaiee ||

The body is consumed by water, fire and earth.

ਓਹੁ ਨ ਬਾਲਾ ਬੂਢਾ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

oh na baalaa booddaa bhaiee ||1|| rahaau ||

But the soul is neither young nor old, O Siblings of Destiny. ||1||Pause||

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਸਾਧ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥

naanak dhaas saadh saranaiee ||

Servant Nanak has entered the Sanctuary of the Holy.

ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਭਉ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰਾਈ ॥੨॥੩੩॥

gur prasaadh bhau paar paraiee ||2||33||

By Guru's Grace, he has shaken off the fear of death. ||2||33||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

aasaa mahalaa panjavaa ||

Aasaa, Fifth Mehla:

ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਆਤਮ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥

sadhaa sadhaa aatam paragaas ||

Forever and ever, the soul is illumined;

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਚਰਣ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੧॥

saadhasa(n)gat har charan nivaas ||1||

in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, it dwells at the Feet of the Lord. ||1||

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਨਿਤਿ ਜਪਿ ਮਨ ਮੇਰੇ ॥

raam naam nit jap man mere ||

Chant the Lord's Name each and every day, O my mind.

ਸੀਤਲ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਜਾਹਿ ਸਭੇ ਮਨ ਤੇਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

seetal saa(n)t sadhaa sukh paaveh kilavikh jaeh sabhe man tere ||1|| rahaau ||

You shall find lasting peace, contentment and tranquility, and all your sins shall depart. ||1||Pause||

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਰਮ ॥

kahu naanak jaa ke pooran karam ||

Says Nanak, one who is blessed with perfect good karma,

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ॥੨॥੩੪॥

satigur bheTe pooran paarabraham ||2||34||

meets the True Guru, and obtains the Perfect Supreme Lord God. ||2||34||

ਦੂਜੇ ਘਰ ਕੇ ਚਉਤੀਸ ॥

dhooje ghar ke chautees ||

Thirty-four Shabads in Second House. ||
