How the bani pages are prepared
Gurbani deserves care. This page explains what we publish, what we never change, and how to tell us about a mistake.
The text
Every bani page shows the Gurmukhi line by line, with a Roman transliteration and an English translation beside it. The text, transliteration and translation are shown exactly as our bani service provides them. We do not edit, shorten, or reword any line, and we do not add our own translation.
Where traditions differ on how much of a bani is included, the pages follow the standard set out in the Sikh Rehat Maryada. A bani's page notes this where it matters, for example on Rehras Sahib.
The writing around the text
The introduction, meaning, guidance on when and how to recite, and the questions and answers on each page are written by us. They describe what Sikhs traditionally hold and what the bani itself says. They are meant to help a reader understand and begin, not to replace a teacher or the sangat.
Audio and PDFs
The recordings on the bani pages are the same recordings used in the Simran app. The PDFs are typeset from the same text as the page, in A5, and are free to print. Please treat printed Gurbani with respect.
Corrections
If you find an error in any text, transliteration or translation, or in our own writing, email [email protected] with the page and the line. We check every report.
No ads, no tracking of your reading
The bani pages carry no advertising and never will. We do not track what you read.
