ਜਨਨੀ ਜਾਨਤ ਸੁਤੁ ਬਡਾ ਹੋਤੁ ਹੈ ਇਤਨਾ ਕੁ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਜਿ ਦਿਨ ਦਿਨ ਅਵਧ ਘਟਤੁ ਹੈ ॥

jananee jaanat sut baddaa hot hai itanaa k na jaanai j dhin dhin avadh ghaTat hai ||

The mother thinks that her son is growing up; she does not understand that, day by day, his life is diminishing.

ਮੋਰ ਮੋਰ ਕਰਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਲਾਡੁ ਧਰਿ ਪੇਖਤ ਹੀ ਜਮਰਾਉ ਹਸੈ ॥੧॥

mor mor kar adhik laadd dhar pekhat hee jamaraau hasai ||1||

Calling him, ""Mine, mine"", she fondles him lovingly, while the Messenger of Death looks on and laughs. ||1||

ਐਸਾ ਤੈਂ ਜਗੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

aaisaa tai(n) jag bharam laiaa ||

You have misled the world so deeply in doubt.

ਕੈਸੇ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਬ ਮੋਹਿਆ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

kaise boojhai jab mohiaa hai maiaa ||1|| rahaau ||

How can people understand You, when they are entranced by Maya? ||1||Pause||

ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਛੋਡਿ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਰਸ ਇਤੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਿਹਚਉ ਮਰਣਾ ॥

kahat kabeer chhodd bikhiaa ras it sa(n)gat nihachau maranaa ||

Says Kabeer, give up the pleasures of corruption, or else you will surely die of them.

ਰਮਈਆ ਜਪਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਅਨਤ ਜੀਵਣ ਬਾਣੀ ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਭਵ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਤਰਣਾ ॥੨॥

ramieeaa japahu praanee anat jeevan baanee in bidh bhav saagar taranaa ||2||

Meditate on the Lord, O mortal being, through the Word of His Bani; you shall be blessed with eternal life. In this way, shall you cross over the terrifying world-ocean. ||2||

ਜਾਂ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਭਾਉ ॥

jaa(n) tis bhaavai taa laagai bhaau ||

As it pleases Him, people embrace love for the Lord,

ਭਰਮੁ ਭੁਲਾਵਾ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਜਾਇ ॥

bharam bhulaavaa vichahu jai ||

and doubt and delusion are dispelled from within.

ਉਪਜੈ ਸਹਜੁ ਗਿਆਨ ਮਤਿ ਜਾਗੈ ॥

aupajai sahaj giaan mat jaagai ||

Intuitive peace and poise well up within, and the intellect is awakened to spiritual wisdom.

ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੈ ॥੩॥

gur prasaadh a(n)tar liv laagai ||3||

By Guru's Grace, the inner being is touched by the Lord's Love. ||3||

ਇਤੁ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਮਰਣਾ ॥

eit sa(n)gat naahee maranaa ||

In this association, there is no death.

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣਿ ਤਾ ਖਸਮੈ ਮਿਲਣਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ਦੂਜਾ ॥

hukam pachhaan taa khasamai milanaa ||1|| rahaau dhoojaa ||

Recognizing the Hukam of His Command, you shall meet with your Lord and Master. ||1||Second Pause||

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਮਨਿ ਆਗਲੜਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਜਰਾ ਮਰਣੁ ਭਉ ਵਿਸਰਿ ਗਇਆ ॥

maiaa moh man aagalaRaa praanee jaraa maran bhau visar giaa ||

The mind is totally attached to Maya; the mortal has forgotten his fear of old age and death.

ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਬਿਗਸਹਿ ਕਮਲਾ ਜਿਉ ਪਰ ਘਰਿ ਜੋਹਹਿ ਕਪਟ ਨਰਾ ॥੧॥

kuTa(n)b dhekh bigaseh kamalaa jiau par ghar joheh kapaT naraa ||1||

Gazing upon his family, he blossoms forth like the lotus flower; the deceitful person watches and covets the homes of others. ||1||

ਦੂੜਾ ਆਇਓਹਿ ਜਮਹਿ ਤਣਾ ॥ ਤਿਨ ਆਗਲੜੈ ਮੈ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

dhooRaa aaioh jameh tanaa || tin aagalaRai mai rahan na jai ||

When the powerful Messenger of Death comes, no one can stand against his awesome power.

ਕੋਈ ਕੋਈ ਸਾਜਣੁ ਆਇ ਕਹੈ ॥

koiee koiee saajan aai kahai ||

Rare, very rare, is that friend who comes and says,

ਮਿਲੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਬੀਠੁਲਾ ਲੈ ਬਾਹੜੀ ਵਲਾਇ ॥ ਮਿਲੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਰਮਈਆ ਮੈ ਲੇਹਿ ਛਡਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

mil mere beeThulaa lai baahaRee valai || mil mere ramieeaa mai leh chhaddai ||1|| rahaau ||

"O my Beloved, take me into Your Embrace! O my Lord, please save me!"||1||Pause||

ਅਨਿਕ ਅਨਿਕ ਭੋਗ ਰਾਜ ਬਿਸਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਸੰਸਾਰ ਸਾਗਰ ਪੈ ਅਮਰੁ ਭਇਆ ॥

anik anik bhog raaj bisare praanee sa(n)saar saagar pai amar bhiaa ||

Indulging in all sorts of princely pleasures, O mortal, you have forgotten God; you have fallen into the world-ocean, and you think that you have become immortal.

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੂਠਾ ਚੇਤਸਿ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਇਓ ਆਲਸੀਆ ॥੨॥

maiaa mooThaa chetas naahee janam gavaio aalaseeaa ||2||

Cheated and plundered by Maya, you do not think of God, and you waste your life in laziness. ||2||

ਬਿਖਮ ਘੋਰ ਪੰਥਿ ਚਾਲਣਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਰਵਿ ਸਸਿ ਤਹ ਨ ਪ੍ਰਵੇਸੰ ॥

bikham ghor pa(n)th chaalanaa praanee rav sas teh na pravesa(n) ||

The path you must walk is treacherous and terrifying, O mortal; neither the sun nor the moon shine there.

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਤਬ ਬਿਸਰਿ ਗਇਆ ਜਾਂ ਤਜੀਅਲੇ ਸੰਸਾਰੰ ॥੩॥

maiaa moh tab bisar giaa jaa(n) tajeeale sa(n)saara(n) ||3||

Your emotional attachment to Maya will be forgotten, when you have to leave this world. ||3||

ਆਜੁ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਗਟੁ ਭਇਆ ਹੈ ਪੇਖੀਅਲੇ ਧਰਮਰਾਓ ॥

aaj merai man pragaT bhiaa hai pekheeale dharamaraao ||

Today, it became clear to my mind that the Righteous Judge of Dharma is watching us.

ਤਹ ਕਰ ਦਲ ਕਰਨਿ ਮਹਾਬਲੀ ਤਿਨ ਆਗਲੜੈ ਮੈ ਰਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੪॥

teh kar dhal karan mahaabalee tin aagalaRai mai rahan na jai ||4||

His messengers, with their awesome power, crush people between their hands; I cannot stand against them. ||4||

ਜੇ ਕੋ ਮੂੰ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਕਰਤੁ ਹੈ ਤਾ ਵਣਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਣਿ ਰਤੜਾ ਨਾਰਾਇਣਾ ॥

je ko moo(n) upadhes karat hai taa van tiran rataRaa naarainaa ||

ਐ ਜੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਜਾਣਦਾ ਬਦਤਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਚਨੁ ਰਾਮਈਆ ॥੫॥੨॥

aai jee too(n) aape sabh kichh jaanadhaa badhat tiralochan raamieeaa ||5||2||

O Dear Lord, You Yourself know everything; so prays Trilochan, Lord. ||5||2||

ਅਚਰਜ ਏਕੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਪੰਡੀਆ ਅਬ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥

acharaj ek sunahu re pa(n)ddeeaa ab kichh kahan na jaiee ||

Listen, O religious scholar: the One Lord alone is Wondrous; no one can describe Him.

ਸੁਰਿ ਨਰ ਗਣ ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬ ਜਿਨਿ ਮੋਹੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਮੇਖੁਲੀ ਲਾਈ ॥੧॥

sur nar gan ga(n)dhrab jin mohe tirabhavan mekhulee laiee ||1||

He fascinates the angels, the celestial singers and the heavenly musicians; he has strung the three worlds upon His Thread. ||1||

ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਮ ਅਨਹਦ ਕਿੰਗੁਰੀ ਬਾਜੈ ॥

raajaa raam anahadh ki(n)guree baajai ||

The Unstruck Melody of the Sovereign Lord's Harp vibrates;

ਜਾ ਕੀ ਦਿਸਟਿ ਨਾਦ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

jaa kee dhisaT naadh liv laagai ||1|| rahaau ||

by His Glance of Grace, we are lovingly attuned to the Sound-current of the Naad. ||1||Pause||

ਭਾਠੀ ਗਗਨੁ ਸਿੰਙਿਆ ਅਰੁ ਚੁੰਙਿਆ ਕਨਕ ਕਲਸ ਇਕੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

bhaaThee gagan si(n)n(g)iaa ar chu(n)n(g)iaa kanak kalas ik paiaa ||

The Tenth Gate of my crown chakra is the distilling fire, and the channels of the Ida and Pingala are the funnels, to pour in and empty out the golden vat.

ਤਿਸੁ ਮਹਿ ਧਾਰ ਚੁਐ ਅਤਿ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਰਸ ਮਹਿ ਰਸਨ ਚੁਆਇਆ ॥੨॥

tis meh dhaar chuaai at niramal ras meh rasan chuaaiaa ||2||

Into that vat, there trickles a gentle stream of the most sublime and pure essence of all distilled essences. ||2||

ਏਕ ਜੁ ਬਾਤ ਅਨੂਪ ਬਨੀ ਹੈ ਪਵਨ ਪਿਆਲਾ ਸਾਜਿਆ ॥

ek ju baat anoop banee hai pavan piaalaa saajiaa ||

Something wonderful has happened-the breath has become the cup.

ਤੀਨਿ ਭਵਨ ਮਹਿ ਏਕੋ ਜੋਗੀ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਵਨੁ ਹੈ ਰਾਜਾ ॥੩॥

teen bhavan meh eko jogee kahahu kavan hai raajaa ||3||

In all the three worlds, such a Yogi is unique. What king can compare to him? ||3||

ਐਸੇ ਗਿਆਨ ਪ੍ਰਗਟਿਆ ਪੁਰਖੋਤਮ ਕਹੁ ਕਬੀਰ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥

aaise giaan pragaTiaa purakhotam kahu kabeer ra(n)g raataa ||

This spiritual wisdom of God, the Supreme Soul, has illuminated my being. Says Kabeer, I am attuned to His Love.

ਅਉਰ ਦੁਨੀ ਸਭ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਨੀ ਮਨੁ ਰਾਮ ਰਸਾਇਨ ਮਾਤਾ ॥੪॥੩॥

aaur dhunee sabh bharam bhulaanee man raam rasain maataa ||4||3||

All the rest of the world is deluded by doubt, while my mind is intoxicated with the Sublime Essence of the Lord. ||4||3||

ਰੇ ਨਰ ਗਰਭ ਕੁੰਡਲ ਜਬ ਆਛਤ ਉਰਧ ਧਿਆਨ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗਾ ॥

re nar garabh ku(n)ddal jab aachhat uradh dhiaan liv laagaa ||

O man, when you were coiled in the cradle of the womb, upside-down, you were absorbed in meditation.

ਮਿਰਤਕ ਪਿੰਡਿ ਪਦ ਮਦ ਨਾ ਅਹਿਨਿਸਿ ਏਕੁ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਸੁ ਨਾਗਾ ॥

mritak pi(n)dd padh madh naa ahinis ek agiaan su naagaa ||

You took no pride in your perishable body; night and day were all the same to you-you lived unknowing, in the silence of the void.

ਤੇ ਦਿਨ ਸੰਮਲੁ ਕਸਟ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖ ਅਬ ਚਿਤੁ ਅਧਿਕ ਪਸਾਰਿਆ ॥

te dhin sa(n)mal kasaT mahaa dhukh ab chit adhik pasaariaa ||

Remember the terrible pain and suffering of those days, now that you have spread out the net of your consciousness far and wide.

ਗਰਭ ਛੋਡਿ ਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਮੰਡਲ ਆਇਆ ਤਉ ਨਰਹਰਿ ਮਨਹੁ ਬਿਸਾਰਿਆ ॥੧॥

garabh chhodd mirat ma(n)ddal aaiaa tau narahar manahu bisaariaa ||1||

Leaving the womb, you entered this mortal world; you have forgotten the Lord from your mind. ||1||

ਫਿਰਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹਿਗਾ ਮੂੜਿਆ ਤੂੰ ਕਵਨ ਕੁਮਤਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਲਾਗਾ ॥

fir pachhutaavahigaa mooRiaa too(n) kavan kumat bhram laagaa ||

Later, you will regret and repent-you fool! Why are you engrossed in evil-mindedness and skepticism?

ਚੇਤਿ ਰਾਮੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਜਾਹਿਗਾ ਜਨੁ ਬਿਚਰੈ ਅਨਰਾਧਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

chet raam naahee jam pur jaahigaa jan bicharai anaraadhaa ||1|| rahaau ||

Think of the Lord, or else you shall be led to the City of Death. Why are you wandering around, out of control? ||1||Pause||

ਬਾਲ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਚਿੰਦ ਰਸ ਲਾਗਾ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਿਆਪੈ ॥

baal binodh chi(n)dh ras laagaa khin khin moh biaapai ||

You play like a child, craving sweets; moment by moment, you become more entangled in emotional attachment.

ਰਸੁ ਮਿਸੁ ਮੇਧੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਚਾਖੀ ਤਉ ਪੰਚ ਪ੍ਰਗਟ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥

ras mis medh a(n)mrit bikh chaakhee tau pa(n)ch pragaT sa(n)taapai ||

Tasting good and bad, you eat nectar and then poison, and then the five passions appear and torture you.

ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਛੋਡਿ ਸੁਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਮਤਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਅਰਾਧਿਆ ॥

jap tap sa(n)jam chhodd sukirat mat raam naam na araadhiaa ||

Abandoning meditation, penance and self-restraint, and the wisdom of good actions, you do not worship and adore the Lord's Name.

ਉਛਲਿਆ ਕਾਮੁ ਕਾਲ ਮਤਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਤਉ ਆਨਿ ਸਕਤਿ ਗਲਿ ਬਾਂਧਿਆ ॥੨॥

auchhaliaa kaam kaal mat laagee tau aan sakat gal baa(n)dhiaa ||2||

You are overflowing with sexual desire, and your intellect is stained with darkness; you are held in the grip of Shakti's power. ||2||

ਤਰੁਣ ਤੇਜੁ ਪਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਮੁਖੁ ਜੋਹਹਿ ਸਰੁ ਅਪਸਰੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਣਿਆ ॥

tarun tej par tria mukh joheh sar apasar na pachhaaniaa ||

In the heat of youthful passion, you look with desire upon the faces of other men's wives; you do not distinguish between good and evil.

ਉਨਮਤ ਕਾਮਿ ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖੁ ਭੂਲੈ ਪਾਪੁ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਨ ਪਛਾਨਿਆ ॥

aunamat kaam mahaa bikh bhoolai paap pu(n)n na pachhaaniaa ||

Drunk with sexual desire and other great sins, you go astray, and do not distinguish between vice and virtue.

ਸੁਤ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਗਰਬਿਆ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਤੇ ਖੋਇਆ ॥

sut sa(n)pat dhekh ih man garabiaa raam ridhai te khoiaa ||

Gazing upon your children and your property, your mind is proud and arrogant; you cast out the Lord from your heart.

ਅਵਰ ਮਰਤ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਤੋਲੇ ਤਉ ਭਗ ਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਵਿਗੋਇਆ ॥੩॥

avar marat maiaa man tole tau bhag mukh janam vigoiaa ||3||

When others die, you measure your own wealth in your mind; you waste your life in the pleasures of the mouth and sexual organs. ||3||

ਪੁੰਡਰ ਕੇਸ ਕੁਸਮ ਤੇ ਧਉਲੇ ਸਪਤ ਪਾਤਾਲ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥

pu(n)ddar kes kusam te dhaule sapat paataal kee baanee ||

Your hair is whiter than the jasmine flower, and your voice has grown feeble, as if it comes from the seventh underworld.

ਲੋਚਨ ਸ੍ਰਮਹਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਬਲ ਨਾਠੀ ਤਾ ਕਾਮੁ ਪਵਸਿ ਮਾਧਾਣੀ ॥

lochan srameh budh bal naaThee taa kaam pavas maadhaanee ||

Your eyes water, and your intellect and strength have left you; but still, your sexual desire churns and drives you on.

ਤਾ ਤੇ ਬਿਖੈ ਭਈ ਮਤਿ ਪਾਵਸਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਕਮਲੁ ਕੁਮਲਾਣਾ ॥

taa te bikhai bhiee mat paavas kaiaa kamal kumalaanaa ||

And so, your intellect has dried up through corruption, and the lotus flower of your body has wilted and withered.

ਅਵਗਤਿ ਬਾਣਿ ਛੋਡਿ ਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਮੰਡਲਿ ਤਉ ਪਾਛੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਣਾ ॥੪॥

avagat baan chhodd mirat ma(n)ddal tau paachhai pachhutaanaa ||4||

You have forsaken the Bani, the Word of the Immortal Lord, in this mortal world; in the end, you shall regret and repent. ||4||

ਨਿਕੁਟੀ ਦੇਹ ਦੇਖਿ ਧੁਨਿ ਉਪਜੈ ਮਾਨ ਕਰਤ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝੈ ॥

nikuTee dheh dhekh dhun upajai maan karat nahee boojhai ||

Gazing upon the tiny bodies of your children, love has welled up within your heart; you are proud of them, but you do not understand.

ਲਾਲਚੁ ਕਰੈ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਦ ਕਾਰਨ ਲੋਚਨ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ॥

laalach karai jeevan padh kaaran lochan kachhoo na soojhai ||

You long for the dignity of a long life, but your eyes can no longer see anything.

ਥਾਕਾ ਤੇਜੁ ਉਡਿਆ ਮਨੁ ਪੰਖੀ ਘਰਿ ਆਂਗਨਿ ਨ ਸੁਖਾਈ ॥

thaakaa tej uddiaa man pa(n)khee ghar aa(n)gan na sukhaiee ||

Your light has gone out, and the bird of your mind has flown away; you are no longer welcome in your own home and courtyard.

ਬੇਣੀ ਕਹੈ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਭਗਤਹੁ ਮਰਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਿਨਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੫॥

benee kahai sunahu re bhagatahu maran mukat kin paiee ||5||

Says Baynee, listen, O devotee: who has ever attained liberation after such a death? ||5||

ਤੋਹੀ ਮੋਹੀ ਮੋਹੀ ਤੋਹੀ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਕੈਸਾ ॥

tohee mohee mohee tohee a(n)tar kaisaa ||

You are me, and I am You-what is the difference between us?

ਕਨਕ ਕਟਿਕ ਜਲ ਤਰੰਗ ਜੈਸਾ ॥੧॥

kanak kaTik jal tara(n)g jaisaa ||1||

We are like gold and the bracelet, or water and the waves. ||1||

ਜਉ ਪੈ ਹਮ ਨ ਪਾਪ ਕਰੰਤਾ ਅਹੇ ਅਨੰਤਾ ॥

jau pai ham na paap kara(n)taa ahe ana(n)taa ||

If I did not commit any sins, O Infinite Lord,

ਪਤਿਤ ਪਾਵਨ ਨਾਮੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਹੁੰਤਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

patit paavan naam kaise hu(n)taa ||1|| rahaau ||

how would You have acquired the name, 'Redeemer of sinners'? ||1||Pause||

ਤੁਮੑ ਜੁ ਨਾਇਕ ਆਛਹੁ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥

tum(h) ju naik aachhahu a(n)tarajaamee ||

You are my Master, the Inner-knower, Searcher of hearts.

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇ ਜਨੁ ਜਾਨੀਜੈ ਜਨ ਤੇ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥੨॥

prabh te jan jaaneejai jan te suaamee ||2||

The servant is known by his God, and the Lord and Master is known by His servant. ||2||

ਸਰੀਰੁ ਆਰਾਧੈ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ਦੇਹੂ ॥

sareer aaraadhai mo kau beechaar dhehoo ||

Grant me the wisdom to worship and adore You with my body.

ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਸਮ ਦਲ ਸਮਝਾਵੈ ਕੋਊ ॥੩॥

ravidhaas sam dhal samajhaavai kouoo ||3||

O Ravi Daas, one who understands that the Lord is equally in all, is very rare. ||3||
