ਅਹੰਬੁਧਿ ਮਨ ਪੂਰਿ ਥਿਧਾਈ ॥

aha(n)budh man poor thidhaiee ||

The mind is overflowing with the greasy dirt of egotistical pride.

ਸਾਧ ਧੂਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਸੁਧ ਮੰਜਾਈ ॥੧॥

saadh dhoor kar sudh ma(n)jaiee ||1||

With the dust of the feet of the Holy, it is scrubbed clean. ||1||

ਅਨਿਕ ਜਲਾ ਜੇ ਧੋਵੈ ਦੇਹੀ ॥

anik jalaa je dhovai dhehee ||

The body may be washed with loads of water,

ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਉਤਰੈ ਸੁਧੁ ਨ ਤੇਹੀ ॥੨॥

mail na utarai sudh na tehee ||2||

and yet its filth is not removed, and it does not become clean. ||2||

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸਦਾ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ॥

satigur bheTio sadhaa kirapaal ||

I have met the True Guru, who is merciful forever.

ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਕਾਟਿਆ ਭਉ ਕਾਲ ॥੩॥

har simar simar kaaTiaa bhau kaal ||3||

Meditating, meditating in remembrance on the Lord, I am rid of the fear of death. ||3||

ਮੁਕਤਿ ਭੁਗਤਿ ਜੁਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਉ ॥

mukat bhugat jugat har naau ||

Liberation, pleasures and worldly success are all in the Lord's Name.

ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਉ ॥੪॥੧੦੦॥੧੬੯॥

prem bhagat naanak gun gaau ||4||100||169||

With loving devotional worship, O Nanak, sing His Glorious Praises. ||4||100||169||

Gauree, Fifth Mehla:

ਜੀਵਨ ਪਦਵੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਦਾਸ ॥

jeevan padhavee har ke dhaas ||

The Lord's slaves attain the highest status of life.

ਜਿਨ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਤਮ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥੧॥

jin miliaa aatam paragaas ||1||

Meeting them, the soul is enlightened. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਸੁਨਿ ਮਨ ਕਾਨੀ ॥

har kaa simaran sun man kaanee ||

Those who listen with their mind and ears to the Lord's meditative remembrance,

ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਦੁਆਰ ਪਰਾਨੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

sukh paaveh har dhuaar paraanee ||1|| rahaau ||

are blessed with peace at the Lord's Gate, O mortal. ||1||Pause||

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਧਿਆਈਐ ਗੋਪਾਲੁ ॥

aaTh pahar dhiaaieeaai gopaal ||

Twenty-four hours a day, meditate on the Sustainer of the World.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਦੇਖਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੁ ॥੨॥੧੦੧॥੧੭੦॥

naanak dharasan dhekh nihaal ||2||101||170||

O Nanak, gazing on the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, I am enraptured. ||2||101||170||

Gauree, Fifth Mehla:

ਸਾਂਤਿ ਭਈ ਗੁਰ ਗੋਬਿਦਿ ਪਾਈ ॥

saa(n)t bhiee gur gobidh paiee ||

Peace and tranquility have come; the Guru, the Lord of the Universe, has brought it.

ਤਾਪ ਪਾਪ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

taap paap binase mere bhaiee ||1|| rahaau ||

The burning sins have departed, O my Siblings of Destiny. ||1||Pause||

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਤ ਰਸਨ ਬਖਾਨ ॥

raam naam nit rasan bakhaan ||

With your tongue, continually chant the Lord's Name.

ਬਿਨਸੇ ਰੋਗ ਭਏ ਕਲਿਆਨ ॥੧॥

binase rog bhe kaliaan ||1||

Disease shall depart, and you shall be saved. ||1||

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਗੁਣ ਅਗਮ ਬੀਚਾਰ ॥

paarabraham gun agam beechaar ||

Contemplate the Glorious Virtues of the Unfathomable Supreme Lord God.

ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਮਿ ਹੈ ਨਿਸਤਾਰ ॥੨॥

saadhoo sa(n)gam hai nisataar ||2||

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, you shall be emancipated. ||2||

ਨਿਰਮਲ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਨਿਤ ਨੀਤ ॥

niramal gun gaavahu nit neet ||

Sing the Glories of God each and every day;

ਗਈ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਉਬਰੇ ਜਨ ਮੀਤ ॥੩॥

giee biaadh ubare jan meet ||3||

your afflictions shall be dispelled, and you shall be saved, my humble friend. ||3||

ਮਨ ਬਚ ਕ੍ਰਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪਨਾ ਧਿਆਈ ॥

man bach karam prabh apanaa dhiaaiee ||

In thought, word and deed, I meditate on my God.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੪॥੧੦੨॥੧੭੧॥

naanak dhaas teree saranaiee ||4||102||171||

Slave Nanak has come to Your Sanctuary. ||4||102||171||

ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ਕੀਆ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ॥

netr pragaas keeaa gurdhev ||

The Divine Guru has opened his eyes.

ਭਰਮ ਗਏ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਈ ਸੇਵ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

bharam ge pooran bhiee sev ||1|| rahaau ||

Doubt has been dispelled; my service has been successful. ||1||Pause||

ਸੀਤਲਾ ਤੇ ਰਖਿਆ ਬਿਹਾਰੀ ॥

seetalaa te rakhiaa bihaaree ||

The Giver of joy has saved him from smallpox.

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ॥੧॥

paarabraham prabh kirapaa dhaaree ||1||

The Supreme Lord God has granted His Grace. ||1||

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਸੋ ਜੀਵੈ ॥

naanak naam japai so jeevai ||

O Nanak, he alone lives, who chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪੀਵੈ ॥੨॥੧੦੩॥੧੭੨॥

saadhasa(n)g har a(n)mrit peevai ||2||103||172||

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, drink deeply of the Lord's Ambrosial Nectar. ||2||103||172||

Gauree, Fifth Mehla:

ਧਨੁ ਓਹੁ ਮਸਤਕੁ ਧਨੁ ਤੇਰੇ ਨੇਤ ॥

dhan oh masatak dhan tere net ||

Blessed is that forehead, and blessed are those eyes;

ਧਨੁ ਓਇ ਭਗਤ ਜਿਨ ਤੁਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਹੇਤ ॥੧॥

dhan oi bhagat jin tum sa(n)g het ||1||

blessed are those devotees who are in love with You. ||1||

ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਕੈਸੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਲਹੀਐ ॥

naam binaa kaise sukh laheeaai ||

Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, how anyone find peace?

ਰਸਨਾ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਜਸੁ ਕਹੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

rasanaa raam naam jas kaheeaai ||1|| rahaau ||

With your tongue, chant the Praises of the Name of the Lord. ||1||Pause||

ਤਿਨ ਊਪਰਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ॥

tin uoopar jaieeaai kurabaan ||

Nanak is a sacrifice to those

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਪਿਆ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੁ ॥੨॥੧੦੪॥੧੭੩॥

naanak jin japiaa nirabaan ||2||104||173||

who meditate on the Lord of Nirvaanaa. ||2||104||173||

Gauree, Fifth Mehla:

ਤੂੰਹੈ ਮਸਲਤਿ ਤੂੰਹੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥

too(n)hai masalat too(n)hai naal ||

You are my Advisor; You are always with me.

ਤੂਹੈ ਰਾਖਹਿ ਸਾਰਿ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੧॥

toohai raakheh saar samaal ||1||

You preserve, protect and care for me. ||1||

ਐਸਾ ਰਾਮੁ ਦੀਨ ਦੁਨੀ ਸਹਾਈ ॥

aaisaa raam dheen dhunee sahaiee ||

Such is the Lord, our Help and Support in this world and the next.

ਦਾਸ ਕੀ ਪੈਜ ਰਖੈ ਮੇਰੇ ਭਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

dhaas kee paij rakhai mere bhaiee ||1|| rahaau ||

He protects the honor of His slave, O my Sibling of Destiny. ||1||Pause||

ਆਗੈ ਆਪਿ ਇਹੁ ਥਾਨੁ ਵਸਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ॥

aagai aap ih thaan vas jaa kai ||

He alone exists hereafter; this place is in His Power.

ਆਠ ਪਹਰ ਮਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਉ ਜਾਪੈ ॥੨॥

aaTh pahar man har kau jaapai ||2||

Twenty-four hours a day, O my mind, chant and meditate on the Lord. ||2||

ਪਤਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ਸਚੁ ਨੀਸਾਣੁ ॥

pat paravaan sach neesaan ||

His honor is acknowledged, and he bears the True Insignia;

ਜਾ ਕਉ ਆਪਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਫੁਰਮਾਨੁ ॥੩॥

jaa kau aap kareh furamaan ||3||

the Lord Himself issues His Royal Command. ||3||

ਆਪੇ ਦਾਤਾ ਆਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਿ ॥

aape dhaataa aap pratipaal ||

He Himself is the Giver; He Himself is the Cherisher.

ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੪॥੧੦੫॥੧੭੪॥

nit nit naanak raam naam samaal ||4||105||174||

Continually, continuously, O Nanak, dwell upon the Name of the Lord. ||4||105||174||

When the Perfect True Guru becomes merciful,

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਿਆ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਪਾਲੁ ॥੧॥

hiradhai vasiaa sadhaa gupaal ||1||

the Lord of the World abides in the heart forever. ||1||

ਰਾਮੁ ਰਵਤ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

raam ravat sadh hee sukh paiaa ||

Meditating on the Lord, I have found eternal peace.
